the 8th -9th June.

You will be shown how to make a shelter and it will be you luxury accommodation for the night!
We will also look at fire lighting, water purification and plant / tree identification.

Great to be home again after a relatively dry week in the Brecon Beacons. Once more a very positive time working for Outposts on a leadership assessment week. The clients spend two days  out in the hills completing tasks including constructing there own shelters for the night. I have enjoyed adding to their leadership training some basic bushcraft tips as we walk from task to task. This week they learnt about the Silver birch tree, Bog moss and its uses, making a comfortable bed in the wild and tips for good fire lighting.
The best bit this week for me is seeing the trees bursting with new green leaves what a difference a few warm days make. The Willows, Sycamore, Hawthorne, Horse Chestnut and Birch eager to burst into life.

Although a little cloudy and at times there was some drizzle it was a fine day up on the hills. I was out with Lin to get some chill time before another very busy week away. The views were great and it was fantastic to hear many different birds singing, including my first Cuckoo of the year. While out we spent a little time gathering Molinia grass for use this year when I am teaching fire lighting. It is the best for making birds nests to catch alight from embers. As we walked down a beautiful wooded valley we came across a poor looking red hind possible only 1 or 2 years old, she did appear to be thin and weak on her legs. She got up very gingerly and wandered off as we walked within about 15 feet of her. We did come across a large number of fallen trees, some very large Oak and Ash have come down this spring, I quess from the snow 

Found some time today to put an edge on a machete for a friend. It needed a good sorting out and in the end I was pleased with the final edge. Hope my friend thinks so too.

My first night out under a tarp this year. Up in the Brecon Beacons it was a cold and very windy night, but I was snug and warm. Working again for Outposts on a leadership training course. The only thing missing some sun.........

Good to be back home in Somerset. spent a couple of hours out on the mountain bike up on the hills. Still we wait for spring to show itself, the trees are in bud but holding on with the exception of the Hawthorne which is slowly showing some leaf. As I came down off the hill there were more signs of spring with Nettles, Dandelion in flower, lords and ladies looking very green and the hedges starting to show some green. On the top of the hills it was very blustery at times I had to lean into the wind to stay on the bike. Despite the weather the Skylark's were singing, very odd I feel when there is no sun in the sky.

I have just spent some time getting a great edge back on a knife belonging to a friend. He is so pleased he has given me a large machete to work on next. It is in a very poor state so when I have an hour I will get the wet stones out and work on it.

Just finished a week working in the Brecon Beacons. Great time with excellent instructors and keen clients. The first of 5 weeks working for Outposts.
