Went to check the bark today and found it was ready.
The next part is messy and smelly, the bark is slimy and as I separated the layers it smelt of cat pee. Bit by bit I separated the layers and laid them out over a branch, it took time but slowly I accumulated a nice pile of long flat fibers. I then rinsed them in the clean stream water and took them home to dry out.
Job done, a new supply of really good Lim
Went out today to check the Lime bark, it was ready to finish. The bark is slimy and smelly and the layers of fibers were falling apart. I set to and separated them bit by bit, this is time consuming and it is not helped by the smell which is like cat pee. Once I had separated all the fibers I rinsed them in the stream, then took them home to dry.
Very pleased with the dry fibers they will make a lot of good cordage.
